STEWARDSHIP AND MISSION MINISTRY

Our church has a strong commitment to mission.

The Stewardship & Mission Ministry has been given a substantial contribution by the Presbytery to support the N.W. Haiti Christian Mission

Don't miss the pictures of this wonderful ministry in action.

We also support the Local, National, and International Ministries.

As we begin the new year and a new Session configuration of responsibilities, let us look at some ongoing mission programs to refresh our collective memories of reaching out to those in need.

HUNGER PROGRAMS: Helping to feed the hungry will most certainly continue to be a major activity of our 2012 mission program. The need is greater than ever. We at Calvin need to ramp up our First Fruits participation so that we can help our two major hunger program distribution outlets, the IPM FOOD PANTRY and the SEM FOOD PANTRY. We have written both organizations into our mission budget in the past and we expect to do so again in 2012. Both are well-run organizations who use our money wisely to help the needy.

THE IPM FOOD PANTRY has two locations. The main pantry is located at IPM Headquarters at 3509 Diebold Road in Newtown and also in Batavia. Call 561-3932 for hours of operation. IPM also operates a clothing pantry on site. IPM gives food to qualified persons once every three months. Mrs. Sharon Brummett is our delegate to IPM. IPM is always in need of volunteers and would be glad to answer your questions about volunteer opportunities. Call the number listed above.

THE SEM FOOD PANTRY is located in the mission house right next to the Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church on Beechmont Ave. in Mt. Washington. Their hours are from 9:30am to 2pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 5:30-7:30pm on Tuesdays. Their phone number is 231-1412. SEM gives food and financial assistance to qualified persons once a month. They also offer assistance to persons who want to apply to the Ohio Benefits Program. Bob Bridges is the delegate to SEM from Calvin,

FIRST FRUITS SUNDAY: A long-time program of Calvin to help the hungry is our First Fruits Sunday. On the first Sunday of each month, we ask our congregation to bring in canned and packaged foods for distribution to the IPM and SEM Food Pantries. The hunger needs of our area continues to grow, and we want to assist. We ask you to bring in your food contributions on the first Sunday of each month. Even if it is just a can or two, we hope you will help grow our monthly food collection. If each of our families would bring just a few items on the first Sunday, we would be able to substantially increase our food collection. Won’t you help?

OUR NEIGHBOR-TO-NEIGHBOR PROGRAM: When someone is in need, we usually reach into our wallets and answer the call. That is a good response, but doesn’t solve all the problems of the world. Our Neighbor-to-Neighbor program encourages you to become personally involved with your elderly and infirm neighbors. Pastor David’s recent sermons have been about caring for those less fortunate, and that is exactly what this program does. Do you have an elderly neighbor who is without caring family and/or friends? Why don’t you fill in the blanks? Contact them on a regular basis to make sure they have adequate food and shelter and are not in need of medical attention. Let them know you are available in case of emergency. Be your brothers’ and sisters’ keeper. Your Mission Ministry
